The State of New York has stated that its family court system is in crisis. Many other States share this in common. The solution as far as the leaders of the State of New York are concerned is to throw more money at the system. This response seeks to load the system with more of the problem…money! Those of us at Just Us Campus seek to minimize the role of money in family courts throughout the nation with a core foundation of compassion. There are all sorts of mothers groups, and fathers groups, looking to build strength. However, the most important group of all- the children- are lost in this shuffle. Just Us Campus seeks to restore the essential role of children back into the core of what family courts have been established to do. As a referee who was about to retire in New York said, “the court does not experience the daily life of your family. It only sees what is presented to it in court. I do not know any of you personally. I only know what is said in court and the documents you present. One of your attorneys might be much more skillful than another…the forensic examiner may be biased for whatever reason…as with your child’s attorney…lots of things might get in the way of an accurate picture of your family…so try and work this out without a final court determination.”
Just Us Campus will encourage families to take the “off ramp.” Just Us Campus will work with families to resolve their issues in a collaborative way. We will NOT milk families dry and only then force a deal. We will NOT make early assumptions and enrich ourselves catering to the parent we like the best. We will NOT drag the process along so as to inflate attorneys earnings for representation on inconsequential conferences. We will NOT allow for the skills of one attorney to cause one parent to “win “
What Just Us Campus will do is to initially surround families with other families who have resolved their issues in a collaborative way. Its vital for families, at the initial stages, to be in a space of comfort. Being with others who were at the same stage and got through it is vital in the beginning. These comforting folks will be there throughout the process. Just Us Campus will further provide experts who can assist in resolving issues that are presented. Of course, attorneys will also be useful, and available, in drafting agreements and presenting those agreements to the courts.
This new program will always be focused on the children. Just Us Campus is part of a larger project (Occupy 2026) which is bringing folks together to honor those who have come before us in a way that we wish future generations will feel proud to remember. Our children are our most precious belongings. As we seek to build a more healthy society, we must remember that the ultimate test of any society is how we protect our children. Lets do our part to protect them despite whatever differences have cropped up within the family dynamic.
